Fifth grade Junior Girl Scouts in Troop 17 at Memorial Elementary School in Valparaiso wanted to help out children who might not get any gifts this Christmas. They decided to spend $225.00 of their hard-earned cookie money to buy gifts for those children less fortunate. Adult leaders Kelly Maldia and Julie Dombrowski took them on a field trip to purchase the toys and donate them to Toys for Tots.
The Girl Scout program encourages girls to actively seek areas where they can help in the community. Service projects help girls become valuable, caring citizens. Valparaiso and Washington Twp. Girls Scouts continually contribute time and energy to their communities.
The Valparaiso Area is currently has many girls who would like to join Girl Scouting but they are lacking adult leaders. Any interested adult is urged to contact Beth Baker through email at su12girlscouts@yahoo.com or phone at 464-2418.
