Karen Gaffney speaks at Nativity of Our Savior for Respect Life Month

In partnership with Porter County Right to Life, Nativity of Our Savior School recently hosted a special guest speaker, Karen Gaffney. She came to the Portage school and talked to students and staff about the abilities of persons with Down Syndrome as a part of Respect Life Month. Incidentally, October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Disability Employment Awareness Month. Her message was one of perseverance, kindness, and respect for the dignity of human life. Karen, a native of Oregon, has swam the English Channel, earned a 2-year college degree, and is the first living person with DS to receive an honorary Doctorate Degree. She was a very lovely and eloquent speaker advocating for those with disabilities. Her message really resonated with students of Nativity.
