On Saturday, February 7, students from La Lumiere School’s Concert Choir participated in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) District Solo and Ensemble competition in Kankakee, IL The Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. Brad Poore, received a silver medal for their performance of two a capella pieces: Hear the Joy, a Renaissance-style motet by Jacques Arcadelt, and Salmo 150 by Ernani Aguiar, a contemporary Brazilian composer.
In addition to the School’s choir ensemble, solo performances were also offered by freshman Lexi
Wade from St. John, IN who received a silver medal for her solo vocal performance of Sebben, Crudele by Antonio Caldara. Sophomore Emma Patterson from South Bend received two gold medals: one for singing Preguntale a les estrellas arranged by Edward Kilenyi and another for her piano performance of Solfeggietto by C.P.E. Bach. Junior Mark Van Sessen from Westville, IN won a gold medal for his vocal performance of Panis Angelicus by César Franck and qualified to participate in the ISSMA State Solo competition on February 21 in Indianapolis.
