The La Porte County Historical Society calendars for 2016 are now for sale at the museum. Each year a theme is chosen concerning local history. This year the calendar features La Porte County residents, past and present, who have made significant historical contributions, not just locally, but nationally and even internationally. The calendar is entitled, “Prominent People of La Porte County,” and is available at the museum for $12.00.
Choosing just 13 personalities was the most difficult part as there have been so many. Some of the residents included in the calendar are: Dr. Scholl, Actress Anne Baxter, Entrepreneur Emerson Spartz, and Chief Justice John Roberts. The calendar is part of the Historical Society’s Bicentennial Project for Indiana’s 200th birthday in 2016.
For all of next year, a special display is being planned to commemorate the many varied and interesting people that have called La Porte County “Home.” There are over 35 names on the list, and more keep being added. The calendar highlights just a few of these amazing folks and their contributions. Now is the chance to own a piece of local history. They would also make wonderful presents for the Holidays!
The Museum is located at 2405 Indiana Avenue, (US#35) at the south entrance to La Porte. Hours of operation are 10 A.M. till 4:30 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information about the La Porte County Historical Society and its Museum, please visit www.laportecountyhistory.org.
