La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership welcomes Jordan Snider to the team

Making the leap into a new city or a new job can be daunting, but Jordan Snider took both transitions in stride. It helped that role was a welcoming one. About  2 1/2 months ago, Snider became the administrative assistant for La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership (LEAP). She’s taking the baton from Sylvia Espinosa, who is retiring in April.

“I enjoy being active in my community and the events that they put on. I felt that taking this job would give me the ability to play a larger part in what we do in La Porte, as well as expand my network in a new city,” Snider said.

Snider has been getting acquainted with La Porte since she relocated here last May after graduating from college in her home state of Wisconsin. She moved here to start a career and set down roots with her significant other, who grew up in La Porte.

“La Porte has always been somewhere where I felt at home,” Snider said, “and I am very thankful for the opportunities that I have been given to lead me where I am now.”

As administrative assistant for LEAP, Snider manages bill payments, phone calls, and helps her team with projects as needed.

“Something that I am most proud of when it comes to my role is that I feel comfortable helping my team in many facets,” Snider said. “Though I may not know everything about a topic or skill yet, I try my best to help where I can!”

Even with the COVID-19 pandemic causing Snider to learn to adjust to her role remotely, she’s been able to deal with the challenges through an optimistic approach. Part of that positivity stems from her dedication to the company’s mission to bolster the county by helping businesses flourish.

With a unique city like La Porte, the commitment comes naturally.

“When it comes to La Porte County, something that I am most in awe of is how kind everyone is. The community has made my transition to living here go so smoothly! La Porte is also an amazing place to live and there are so many things that you can get involved with in the community,” Snider said.

Snider feels supported by her community, and she has big plans to tie herself further to it through her creative passion: making pottery.

“I really enjoy working with clay and ceramics, most specifically wheel throwing. One of my goals within my next year of being in La Porte is to establish my own studio at home so that I can continue creating pottery,” Snider said.

Another interest she has makes La Porte the perfect landing spot for her.

“I love shopping at vintage stores! Learning about what the antiques were previously used for is so interesting, and they tell you so much about the community and its culture,” she said.

Snider said she especially values quality time with family, whether that means staying in La Porte with her newfound family and friends, or traveling to Wisconsin for the weekend to visit her family there.

“And to ease your curiosity, yes, I love cheese and beer!” she said.

Snider encouraged people to keep up with LEAP for updates regarding the community, and all the positive things on the horizon.

“I think that the LEAP team always has exciting news for the community. Part of our job is to make the city a more amazing place to live. I would encourage those who would like to stay connected with the LEAP team to like us on Facebook for up-to-date events and news about the projects and initiatives our team is working on,” Snider said.
