La Porte Jaycees Introduce 2014 Backpack Drive

jaycee-bethany-backpack-driveThe La Porte Jaycees are hosting a backpack drive for students in need at Elementary, Middle, and High schools in the La Porte school system. Just in time for back to school, the Jaycees are asking the community to help pitch in. Items that are needed for this drive include backpacks, any type of school supply, and toiletries. This year, there are many ways that you can help donate supplies for students in need.

On Sunday, August 10 from 9a-2p, Help the Jaycees Pack A Backpack at a drive thru supply drop off at Maw and Paws Produce, located on Boyd Blvd near Walmart.

Supplies can be dropped off during business hours at three area locations. There are drop off boxes located at both Kabelin Ace Hardware locations in La Porte, along with Maw and Paws Produce, located at 401A Boyd Blvd (near Walmart). Donations of supplies are also accepted at Bethany Lutheran Church. Many local banks are accepting monetary donations. Donation jars can be found at 1st Source Bank, First Trust Credit Union, Purdue Federal Credit Union, and Centier Bank.

Donations for the 10th annual backpack drive are being accepted through August 13. The Jaycees can also pick up supplies for those unable to drop off. Pickups or questions can be directed through the event chairperson, Ross Ratliff by email at ross.ratliff@comcast.net or by phone at 219-393-9533. Every penny and every pencil can help make a difference!

The Jaycees is an organization that provides leadership training opportunities for its members through the projects and programs the members plan, organize, and conduct in both the community and chapter. Both young women and men ages 18 through 40 are eligible to be members. The La Porte Jaycees meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm at their clubhouse located on 406 Clay Street in La Porte.
