There’s a new face in the office at the Lakes of Valparaiso, and she comes with plenty of experience in making people happy. Concierge Angie Pruden began work at the Lakes just two weeks ago, but her passion for smiles makes her the perfect addition to the team.
Pruden is responsible for filing, answering phones, assisting residents, and doing other tasks to keep the office and clubhouse in great condition. She decided to join the team to supplement her income as a floral designer.
When she’s not working at the Lakes, Pruden runs Ivy Dreams Design & Specialty Services out of her home. Ivy Dreams provides custom arrangements for celebrations, holidays, dances and more. After spending years in the floral industry, Pruden decided to transition into running her own business about three years ago.
“It wasn't something I originally set out to do in life, but my kids were little, so I got a part-time job as a floral clerk about 25 years ago and it escalated from there. When I decided to start my business, I had been in the business for quite a long time. I thought doing it from home would give me a little bit more flexibility with my time and give me more time with my family,” Pruden said.
Pruden may be a designer by day, but she spends her nights at the Lakes, assisting residents and keeping the complex in working order. Both jobs offer her the opportunity to work with people and get to know the community.
“I like that I get to meet a lot of different people and that I can cater to each person individually for what they might need,” Pruden said. “I really like the one-on-one interactions. What's important to me is to provide good customer service and make it really special and meaningful.”
Working at the Lakes has also allowed her to learn a different set of skills that she normally doesn’t use in the floral world. She has embraced the chance to translate these skills into her business, and looks forward to learning more tricks as she solidifies her footing at the Lakes.
“My job as a designer is very hands-on. Even though I do some computer work as far as trying to move my business forward, it's definitely different. I like that it's a different aspect and that it challenges me to learn some new things that I haven't been doing with my business,” Pruden said.
At both the Lakes and Ivy Dreams, Pruden hopes to continue to be an asset to the community and create a positive environment for residents and clients.
“My goal is to work more with the community and to be more involved in larger events. I would love to do that and help other businesses in some way. I just love making people happy. That gives me a lot of satisfaction to know that I've done a good job for someone. It really propels me forward,” Pruden said.
Whether it’s at the Lakes or in her own home, Pruden is dedicated to providing excellent service and being a positive light in the community.
