Looking for a way to stay cool in the summer, yet still enjoy the heat of the moment? Crown Point Community Theatre has just the solution for you – a trip South of the Border, or at least a gathering of a comedy troupe from the south side of that major city just over the state border.
Come celebrate “la canícula” (the Dog Days of summer) by cooling off in the theatre while comedians and musicians turn up the heat with a slightly Latin flavor by joining Los Improviachis, “the world’s first and only improvised Mariachi Band” for the mayhem of another comedic fiesta Saturday, August 16 at 8 p.m.
Los Improviachis is the musical improvisation arm of Salsation Theatre Company, Chicago longest running Latino comedy company of 15 years specializing in improvisation and sketch comedy. “We're incredibly excited to have been invited back by CPCT,” exclaims Nelson Velazquez, Salsation's Artistic Director and lead musical director for Los Improviachis. “We had such a great couple of shows back in February that we couldn’t wait to play another show. It was great to see Latino and non-Latinos alike enjoying what we had to offer. Not many people have been exposed to improvisational theatre before let alone musical improv. Exposing mariachi music and culture to the masses in a comedic way is our goal,” he adds.
Los Improviachis will offer their musical mayhem in CPCT’s black box theatrical space, located at 1125 Merrillville Road (on the southeast corner of the same shopping plaza as Jewel, Bronco’s Restaurant, and other businesses). Crown Point Community Theatre, now in its 11th year, is well known in northwest Indiana for the many plays and musicals they perform every season.
