Meals on Wheels invites people to consider volunteering

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Maybe make someone else’s day brighter too? Volunteering for Meals on Wheels to deliver meals to our clients, can be a most rewarding experience. If you have an hour and a half available during the middle of the day you can deliver meals to our clients who reside in the community nearest to you. Your knock on the door and smile on your face, gives you the power to change someone else’s day. It could change yours too. Published reports document that volunteers have better mental alertness after retirement and keep their blood pressures lower by staying busy after leaving their work lives behind.
If you would like to help your neighbors in need, why not help us deliver meals? We are having training/orientation on Tuesday, November 12, at 10:00 am and again on Thursday, November 21, at 1:00 pm in our offices at 8446 Virginia Street, Merrillville. Training lasts a little more than an hour and ends with a tour of our building.
Please call Volunteer Manager, Joan Vith, at 756-3663 and reserve your seat at our next training session. According to Joan, “From recent retirees to actively employed individuals aged 18 to 80+, we have volunteers pledging to help us meet our goal of delivering proper nutrition to our clients. Please consider joining Meals on Wheels and support our route deliveries. “
