Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana Hosts March for Meals Community Champions Week March 16-20, 2015

Meals-on-WheelsMeals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana announced today that it will be celebrating Community Champions Week as a part of its annual March for Meals celebration. Over 40 local first responders, young leaders, political leaders, business leaders, and community partners will be participating this week to show their support for Meals on Wheels and Lake County’s isolated and hungry seniors during the third week of March.

“We are honored to have dozens of Northwest Indiana leaders participate in our March for Meals Community Champions Week,” said Sandra Noe, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana. “This is the largest group of champions we have ever had, and we are so grateful that they are taking part of their day to help us celebrate our seniors.”

March for Meals is a nationwide celebration during the month of March, organized by Meals on Wheels America for the last 13 years, which seeks to raise awareness for not only the vital network of Meals on Wheels programs operating in virtually every community across, but also the needs of the seniors they collectively serve.

Throughout the month, Meals on Wheels providers like Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana, celebrate March for Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. Community Champions Week is a component of March for Meals that utilizes the engagement of prominent figures in the community to help bring attention to the cause.
