Merrillville Intermediate School Celebrates Veterans Day 2015

Merrillville-Intermediate-School-Veterans-Day-Collage-2015Merrillville Intermediate School enjoyed a special treat on Veteran’s day. Aviation Metal smith Petty Officer 3rd Class Julius came in for a visit. Officer Julius served in the Navy for four years. While in the Navy she worked on jets. She was in charge of fixing the jets and their maintenance. She is now a Purdue Calumet student. Her entire college tuition is paid by the Navy. She made the choice to serve her country before serving her own aspirations.

During her visit at MIS she shared with the students several personal experience stories including her encounter with Pirates. She brought in pictures of the jets she worked in, her cranial (helmet), and displayed her uniform with its many flags of honor. She explained what each flag meant and how she earned them.

The students were very engaged & had many questions for Officer Julius; including “what is the biggest threat to the United States?” Officer Julius gave the students the advice that anyone who would harm another person physically or emotionally is a threat to the American citizens. Her statements serve as a reminder that we all need to show a little kindness towards one another. After all, it is part of our MIS Pirate’s Code- Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe!

MIS 6th grade Principal Sean Hudson stated, “It was such an Honor to have Officer Julius share her experiences with the students & we would like to thank all of the Veterans that serve our country each and every day.”
