Michigan City Announces 11th Street Track and Asphalt Replacement Project

michigan-city-sealMayor Ron Meer and the City of Michigan City would like to inform our citizens and visitors that the City and the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) is planning track and asphalt replacement on the 11th Street corridor, from the Tennessee Street to Spring Street.

NICTD’s work involves removing and replacing approximately thirty-six inches of asphalt outside of the rails, on each side of the tracks, along with the asphalt between the rails between Tennessee Street and Washington Street. Their work is tentatively scheduled to begin on July 20, 2015 with completion around September 11, 2015.

As a part of the 2015 paving program, the City of Michigan City Engineer, the Redevelopment Commission, along with other city departments and consultants, will be working in a cooperative effort with NICTD to repave both sides of this stretch of 11th Street from the curb to the NICTD tracks as well improve landscaping, lighting, and way finding signs between Washington Street and Spring Street using Tax Increment Financing funds approved by the Redevelopment Commission. This work is tentatively scheduled to begin on August 3, 2015 with completion around November 13, 2015.

11th Street will be closed to the traveling public for the duration of the project.
