Michigan City Police Department Announces 2015 May Promotions

On Wednesday May 13th, the Michigan City Police Commission along with Chief Mark Swistek, announced the following promotions due to the recent retirements of Sergeant Matt Zolvinski and Sgt. Dave Legros.

Officer Greg Radiger has been promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Officer Radiger has been an officer for 8 years, prior serving in the United States Navy. During his career Greg has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Detective in the Street Crimes Unit, and has worked our Special Operations Group. He will continue as a supervisor on the 2nd shift of the Patrol Division. Corporal Radiger is a K-9 Handler in which he and his partner Apollo are specialized in Explosive and Bomb detection. Greg is additionally a member of our SWAT team and during his career has been distinguished with the Chris Smith Award in 2009, our “Lifesaving Award”, and Police Officer of the Year in 2013. Greg is supported by his patient and understanding wife Nicole.

Corporal Greg Jesse has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Jesse has been an officer for 11 years, and during his career has been assigned to the Patrol Division, School Liaison Detective, and is currently assigned to the Detective Division. Sergeant Jesse is a member of the LaPorte County Scuba Team, and Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT), along with being a Drug Recognition Expert. He along with his father Captain Steve Jesse, originated the “Adopt-a-School” program, and is an advisor for our Explorer Program and counselor for the Youth Leadership Academy. Sergeant Jesse was also bestowed with our distinguished “Lifesaving Award”. Greg is supported by his parents Steve and Debi Jesse and Brother, Chris Jesse.

Officer Francisco Rodriguez has been promoted to the rank of Corporal.
“Cisco” has been a police officer for 9 ½ years, and during his decorated career has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Street Crimes Unit, Training Coordinator, and is currently assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team (F.A.S.T.) where he serves as a deputized United States Marshal Task Force Officer in conjunction with the United States Marshal’s Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Corporal Rodriguez graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2006. He currently holds the qualifications of being a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, and a FX Simunition trainer. Corporal Rodriguez was also named Police Officer of the Year in 2014. Cisco is supported by his wife, Cheri, and two daughters Arianna and Audrey.

Corporal Ken Drake has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Drake has been a police officer for 16 years, and during his tenure has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Patrol Supervision, Detective Division, FAST Team Commander, Special Operations Group and is currently the Commander of the Street Crimes Unit. Sergeant Drake was also deputized as a United States Marshal Task Force Officer in conjunction with the United States Marshal’s Service. Throughout his career he has been awarded numerous Letters of Commendation and an Exceptional Service Award. Ken is supported by his father Retired Captain Ken Drake, his mother Linda, Sister Rhonda, wife Kari and son Kenny.
