Michigan City Police Department Warns Against Spam Calls

Michigan-City-PoliceThe Michigan City Police want to warn citizens of just another “spin” on another scam. Did you receive a call from 855-649-0681?

This is a call that is now scaring a lot of people throughout LaPorte County. What is occurring is the caller states that they are from the “Fraud Protection Agency” and you and your banking information have been compromised.

They continue by stating that your personal information from your checking account is circulating throughout the internet and therefore your identity was compromised.

They also use the tactic of stating they are from your bank and the “Fraud Alert” protection that your bank has purchased for you have been activated and you are in danger.

They then want to change your account and also issue you a new password. They then begin by having you “verify your current account and routing number” so they can begin to help you.

These types of calls are very convincing and citizens are becoming frightened that their information is compromised and they so they give the information over the phone.

This has been occurring throughout LaPorte County and I cannot urge everyone enough to stop listening to these types of scams. If for some reason you suspect your bank account, credit cards or personal information has been used wrongly or compromised, contact your banking institution or credit card company directly.

You may also get a call from a “Company” that wants to sell you Fraud Protection Coverage for a small fee. Please do not fall for this scam either! Not only are you paying for this “fake” service you are also registering with them your credit card and banking information.

They will use different phone numbers and seem legitimate however they are not. Some of these individuals are easily identifiable because of their tactics and occasional subtle slip of an accent however they are very hard sell in their conversations too so please don’t fall for it.

As always if you feel that you have been scammed or someone is attempting to cheat you please contact Sgt. Chris Yagelski 873-1461 ext. #333 or email ASKACOP@Emichigancity.com
