New Best Western Offers Great Service, Affordability, and a Modern Feel

My wife and I had occasion to spend an evening at the new Best Western in Portage, Indiana. This is the newly remodeled/rebuilt hotel at the corner of Rt. 20 and 249. Viewing the property from the outside it is very difficult to tell it is not total new construction. Gone are the rambling additions and outdoor pool, and in its place is a handsome building of brick, stucco and glass. The front desk reception area is expansive and well decorated. The staff was pleasant and greeted us sincerely. After check in we took one of the two elevators to our suite on the fourth floor. The hallways are slightly dim with the lighting as is common in hotels, but the expansive windows at either end of the corridor provide ample natural light. Our room was a two room suite decorated in a twist of modern and traditional styling. The bathroom featured an iridescent vanity top and dark wood. The living room included an easy chair; pull out couch, desk and chair, dresser, coffee table and a 32” flat screen TV. The bedroom was equipped with a very luxurious king sized bed, dresser, night stands, and another 32” flat screen television. The room was very clean and in good repair. The hotel also boasts several wifi hotspots, something most hotels struggle with. The connection was very fast and did not seem to bog down.

There are a few meeting rooms available with lecterns, and multimedia capabilities. The included hot breakfast was more than adequate consisting of cereal, donuts and pastries, bread/toast assortment, biscuits and gravy, sausage and bacon, eggs, as well as coffee and juice. While institutional in consistency, it was very fresh and hot, and displayed in an appealing manner.

We did not take advantage of the pool, or hot tub, but the area seemed very clean, and tropical in appearance. A game room is also located right outside of the pool area complete with video games. There is a small business center with a computer and other amenities for the business traveler, or for checking out the latest news on www.portagelife.com.

Overall we had a wonderful stay. While our room was complimentary, given to my wife at work, we checked the rates and find them affordable and reasonable. Should you have guests coming into town or are planning an event, I would highly recommend the Best Western in Portage Indiana. We used it as a little get away during our “staycation” and were very impressed with the overall service, cleanliness, and modern feel.
