Northwest Health – Porter Invests in Endoscopy Services

Northwest Health – Porter continues their investment in new patient care equipment this year, most recently in endoscopy services.

They hospital has completed its planned capital investment by upgrading its endoscopy suites with new ceiling mounted surgical booms. This newest style of boom aids physicians and support staff by providing easy access to large screen monitors with real-time audio-visual data detailing their patient’s status. The design of the booms also increases the rooms’ functionality helping nurses and technologist maintain optimal effectiveness as they provide surgical assistance.

An endoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a physician to observe the inside of the body without performing major surgery. Doctors use a very small scope that allows them to screen, diagnose and treat many conditions.

Earlier this year, the hospital added a new form of endoscopy when it introduced a medical robot used to perform lung biopsies or remove lung nodules in an even more precise manner. To date, three pulmonologists on the Northwest Health medical staff are using the robotic technology. They say the benefits include:

  • Enhanced Precision: The high-definition imaging and precise maneuverability of the robotic system enables physicians to precisely target and biopsy suspicious lesions deep within the lungs, improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing the need for repeat procedures.
  • Enhanced Safety: Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy provides greater stability and control during procedures, reducing the risk of complications and allowing for safer navigation in challenging anatomical locations.
  • Personalized Treatment: With robotic technology, physicians can better tailor treatment plans to each patient's specific needs, optimizing outcomes and promoting faster recovery.

This robotic-assisted surgery is performed in the endoscopy suite with the benefit of the recently added surgical booms.
