Hundreds took the ice on Thursday evening as Oak Partners hosted their 5th Annual Lace Up Your Skates ice skating party. Featuring plentiful hot cocoa, sweets, and hours of ice-skating, the party gave Oak Partner’s clients, friends, and families a chance to meet without talking finance.

A core part of Oak Partners' philosophy is staying connected with their clients, and one way they do that is through regular events. Some are focused on financial education, while others such as Lace Up Your Skates are simply there to relax and have fun.

“We love this event because it brings our clients and their families together” said Crystal DeHaven, Director of Client Experience at Oak Partners.

Oak Partners' advisors often hear about their client’s children and grandchildren during their meetings. Lace Up Your Skates is one of the rare opportunities for them to actually meet those family members in person.  “We spend so much time planning with our clients, talking about their families, and looking at pictures of their kids, grandkids, weddings, and new babies,” said Bridget Shoemaker, Partner and Wealth Advisor at Oak Partners. “It’s nice to get introduced to those close family and friends and be more a part of that. We actually get to connect with these people that we’re planning for all the time.”

Since Lace Up Your Skates started years ago, advisors get excited to see their clients' families grow. Thursday’s event was the biggest so far, with over 300 people registered to take their turn on the ice.

Hannah Christy, Executive Assistant for Oak Partners' Retirement Asset Management Team, joined the firm less than a year ago. Lace Up Your Skates was one of the first opportunities she has had to see the firm’s commitment to client and community wellness stretch outside of the office.

“Things like this are a lot of the reason why I applied here in the first place,” Christy said. “I really liked the idea that they partner with charities like Humane Indiana or Habitat for Humanity. I love this kind of connection to the community. We’re not just sitting in cubicles.”
