PHS Honors its Scholars with Awards at Awards Night

On Wednesday, May 22, Portage High School held its Senior Awards Night in the auditorium to celebrate the class of 2013 scholars and their vast accomplishments.

The ceremony began with some opening words from an administrator and a collective pledge of allegiance, followed by the announcement of the 49 students with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 or above, all of whom received plaques to take home. Afterward, a slew of both Dollars for Scholars and local scholarships were presented by representatives of local organizations and were awarded to various students, amounting to well over $100,000 in grant money.

We are honoring these students tonight for the hard work, dedication, and civic service that they have displayed throughout their four years here at PHS and in the community. They have their entire lives ahead of them to continue to excel in whatever it is they choose to do in the future,” said Principal Caren Swickard in a short speech at the end of the ceremony.

In addition to being recognized for local scholarships, several students were celebrated on stage for receiving scholarships from their school of choice—a handful of students received full-rides. Congratulations seniors!
