Pierce Middle School Students Win First and Second Place in MLK Essay Contest

Pierce-Middle-School-Students-Win-First-and-Second-Place-in-MLK-Essay-ContestRecently Pierce Middle School Students were given the opportunity to enter the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Ecumenical Committee. The contest required that students write an essay based on the following MLK quote: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

The essays were judged on content, originality, research and clarity of expression and development plan. The essay could not exceed 450 words and had to be typed or written on 8.5 x 11 white paper.

Two Pierce Middle School students were awarded top honors. Nomi Green won 1st place and will receive $300. Kendra Patton won 2nd place and will receive $100. Both girls will have their winning essays read at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church on Monday, January 21.
