Are you planning a wedding? Congratulations! It’s an exciting time in any couple’s life, but can also be costly. Before you create a wedding board on Pinterest, take some time to think about a budget!
First off, who’s paying?
Are you covering all the costs, are your parents or grandparents helping? Take all that into account when setting a budget.
Second, how long will your engagement be?
A few months, or a few years? That can make a big difference when it comes to paying for things a little at a time. If you’re willing to wait a year or two, you can start buying things ahead, and spread out the costs over time.
Willing to get married in an off-season, or an off-day?
Some venues charge more during peak times. For example, a state park may charge more during the fall, when the leaves are turning colors. If you’re willing to have your wedding during an off-season, you could save a ton on the venue! What about a Friday night, or Sunday afternoon wedding? Saturdays are the most common day for weddings. If you’re willing to choose a different day of the week, you could save money, too!
How many people are on your guest list?
One of the first things you should do when planning a wedding is to set your guest list. How many people are you inviting? Once you have an estimate, you can choose a venue that is the right size. Keeping a smaller guest list can save money, too. Small, intimate weddings are always a good idea!
Are you serving food?
You are not required to feed your guests a meal at your wedding! A dessert only wedding is the perfect idea when you’re trying to cut costs without cutting down on the guest list tremendously. Try a dessert bar! Instead of just having cake, have cupcakes, pies, cookies, brownies, and even an ice cream sundae station. These things are much cheaper than dinner, and could even be purchased in bulk at a wholesale club for even cheaper.
Are you stressing?
Planning a wedding can be stressful, and sticking to a budget can be difficult. Even cutting costs on just a couple large things (like the venue and dinner), can save a ton of money. The most important thing to remember is to enjoy yourself. Plan the wedding you and your spouse want, and make it the best day ever.
