Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ presents All Things Bright & Beautiful

The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ hosted its All Things Bright & Beautiful concert at the Ancilla Domini Chapel in Plymouth on Saturday, May 4.

The duo of Soprano Jessica McCormack and Tenor JR Fralick enlightened the chapel with their performance of solos and duets. They were backed by Director of Liturgy and Music Andrew Jennings, who emphasized the importance of sharing this music with others, particularly in a spiritual context. Together, they filled the chapel with a wonderful array of sounds for all to enjoy.

“To be able to share what we’ve worked on with people is so great,” Jennings said. “We hope that wherever people are spiritually, or whatever background they come from, that they can come to this space, with the beauty of the architecture and beauty of the sound it creates, and they can find something a little transcendental.”

McCormack also underlined the joy of performing music in the Chapel. She loved being part of an experience that allowed her to share such a special moment with those who matter most. The memories she made and the camaraderie she built with her team putting this together made this an unforgettable event, and hopes to be a part of more concerts like this in the future as well.

“I love being able to share time and talents with friends, and anytime you get an opportunity to perform sacred music in a sacred space, you can’t go wrong,” McCormack said.

She is very appreciative of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ’s support of concerts like this. The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ greatly champions the arts, and it means a lot to McCormack knowing the organization is proud to host events such as All Things Bright & Beautiful.

“They are huge patrons and supporters of the arts,” McCormack said. “They are so welcoming to all. It’s really nice to see who attends these performances, and finances aren’t a barrier for people who want to attend.”

Fralick discussed his preparation for these events such as All Things Bright & Beautiful. To make this event a success, Fralick had to balance new and old material, but valuable input from McCormack helped a ton along the way.

“Jessica and I talked a lot. We dreamt this up in February and have been trying to put sets together since,” Fralick said. “It’s always a mix of some new things and some old things, so you try to find a balance that makes sense.”

It was a beautiful day full of delightful sound, community, and camaraderie, making this concert a memorable one for the books.
