The city of Portage hosted a national BMX Racing Event on September 16th through the 18th at Imagination Glen outdoor BMX track. This event was one of 27 events that occur across the country, one of the last opportunities for riders to gain national standing. Sponsored by the American Bicycle Association, over 700 riders from 31 states, along with roughly 4,700 spectators came out to Portage for this 3 day event, including people as far away as California, Florida, and Canada.
The competition was a race, 8 kids on a gate on a closed circuit course, taking approximately 35 seconds to finish over jumps. The riders compete all over the US, similar to Nascar races.
