Portage Economic Development Corporation Appoints New Executive Director

Andy Maletta has been appointed executive director for the Portage Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) effective January 17, 2022.

Andy is no stranger to the position, having served in a dual capacity with PEDC from 2016 to 2019 while working as director of economic development for the City of Portage. During this time, Andy elevated the role of the PEDC in the community and guided the PEDC to becoming a fully funded public-private economic development corporation. Plus, his relationships skills helped build strong connections to local businesses and Portage leadership. Under the current structure, Andy will focus full-time on the PEDC and report to the PEDC board of directors.

The board is excited that Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to PEDC with extensive time spent in operations, marketing, and economic development in the private and public sectors, and he understands change-oriented environments. In addition to working for the PEDC and the City of Portage, Andy was the Chief Operating Officer for NorthShore Health Centers and is a Commercial Real Estate Broker with McColly Bennett Commercial Advantage. Prior to that Andy was the VP of Marketing for Indiana Beverage.

In addition to his professional experience, Andy holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Calumet College of St. Joseph's; graduated from the Ball State Indiana Economic Development Course; completed the Leadership Northwest Indiana training; attended several leadership programs through Rapport Leadership International; and was a member of the Indiana Economic Development Association (IEDA). Andy is also an active member of the Portage Community. He is currently the president of the Portage Township School Board, was a board member of the PEDC since 2019, and is involved in numerous community organizations.

Justin Mount, who is the current President of the PEDC Board of Directors said “I am excited that Andy has agreed to become the Executive Director of PEDC again. He’s a valuable asset to not only Portage but Northwest Indiana. We have great plans for how PEDC can help the city attract quality businesses to Portage, as well as how we can help Portage businesses continue to stay healthy and expand. Andy will be critical in helping implement our plans.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to lead the Portage EDC and to continue our efforts on business attraction, retention and expansion as well as building on our past successes toward workforce development with our 360 programs”, said Maletta.
