Steve Nelson with Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 helped the Portage Fire Department with an Paramedic Equipment compartment for our back up Engine 1. Engine 1 was a recent addition to our fleet courtesy of the City of Valparaiso. Engine 1 is used as a mechanical spare unit and for off duty call back to supplement duty crews during large fires, storms, and snow emergencies.
The cabinet seen is used to keep the Paramedic equipment in a safe transport manner and easily accessible on a call for help. The cabinet also keeps the firefighters safe from equipment shifting during a response.
Thanks for Steve Nelson and his Apprentice program for donation of all materials or labor. The cabinet would cost upwards of several thousand dollars for an outside manufacture to design, fabricate, and install for Portage Fire Department.
