Portage Nominated in Ultimate Fishing Town Contest

Indiana-Dunes-Tourism-LogoThe City of Portage could win $25,000 and be featured on the World Fishing Network if enough residents and supporters vote for it as the Ultimate Fishing Town.

Indiana Dunes Tourism, the official tourism bureau of Porter County nominated Portage as the Ultimate Fishing Town on www.WorldFishingNetwork.com.

In making the nomination, Indiana Dunes Tourism wrote, “Portage has marina access to sport fishing on Lake Michigan, as well as a park featuring pier and riverwalk fishing on Lake Michigan (Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk). It also boasts fishing on the Little Calumet River and Salt Creek, and there is a park (Countryside Park) with fishing on an inland lake. Anglers can enjoy a variety of fishing experiences at no cost. The city even celebrates its fishing heritage each year with its famous Perch Festival.

People are encouraged to visit www.worldfishingnetwork.com from May 1 to May 31 and vote for Portage. People can vote every six hours.

The community receiving the most votes will win a $25,000 prize and be featured on the World Fishing Network. The second place town receives $5,000 and the third place town receives $2,500.

Porter County has dozens of great spots for fishing and Portage is certainly worthy of being named the Ultimate Fishing Town,” said Lorelei Weimer, Indiana Dunes Tourism executive director.
