Woodland Park's annual Daddy Daughter Dance was held on Friday night. More than 300 people attended. It was an amazing evening of dinner and dancing. Fathers and daughters alike had so much fun.
There was a D.J. hired for the evening’s music needs. Prime Time Productions did an awesome job playing all the popular music. They had a conga line and did the chicken dance. Girls were even allowed to request songs which they did for one special dad whom was called to the dance floor for a solo number.
It is a wonderful experience for young ladies in the area. They get their hair and (sometimes) makeup done and wear fancy dresses. It is a way to give our young girls an evening to really feel special.
Portage Police Chief Troy Williams was in attendance with his daughter.
"This is my third year coming and this is one of the best programs that the Portage Parks Department puts on,” Williams said. “It’s a chance for the dads and daughters to hang out for a couple of hours. As the girls get older they get more involved in activities and hanging out with friends that the dads get left by the wayside. This is just another way to create lasting memories that the kids can hold onto.”
Dustin Corradino, a father that attended, said of the evening, "It was a good meal and an eventful night of dancing. This was our first year and we plan on coming for many more. It's good to spend time with my daughter before she outgrows me."
His seven year old daughter Angelina said, “I think it was an amazing night! My favorite part was dancing with my dad on the dance floor and also the balloon drop."
At 8 p.m. they released over 200 balloons on top of the crowd.
“The Daddy Daughter Dance is one of our most special events,” Portage Parks Department Superintendent Jenny Orsburn said. “There is nothing like a dad spending time with his daughter. We love to see the smiles on everyone's faces; it's contagious. The girls get to feel like princesses. The best is when you hear from a dad, standing proudly with his teen, that when he first brought her to this dance she danced standing on his shoes.”
The event comes around every February, so if you haven’t attended, make sure you sign up next year. Another event creeping up on us offered through the Portage Park's Department is the Mother Son Dance. Register by April 24 because the dance is held at Woodland Park on the evening of May 3.
