The Portage Police Merit Board, at the August 19, 2024, special meeting, voted to invoke the Emergency Hiring procedure for several open positions this summer.
Application packets for the position of Patrol Officer for the Portage Police Department will be available from Tuesday August 20th, 2024, at 7:00 AM through Friday September 13th, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
All applications must be completed and returned to the Portage Police Department no later than 3:00pm on September 13th, 2024.
Those interested in applying may pick up an application packet at the Portage Police Department, 6260 Central Ave. Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00AM and 3:00PM.
We will be waiving the physical agility test and the written test for qualified candidates. If you are unable to pick up an application, please call us at 219-762-3122 and an application packet can be emailed to you.
All applicants must be a certified from a state accredited police academy.
The salary for a patrol officer is $60,079.49; however, officers with 3 or more years of municipal law enforcement experience may qualify for a starting salary of $68,453.31.
