Portage Township Schools Update, November 16, 2018

Aylesworth Elementary
Mrs. Peele’s 2nd graders have been engaging in small group discussions, using Close Reading strategies! They are practicing using evidence from the text during their discussions, to better answer “why” and “how” questions!

Kyle Elementary
Ryan Bogue was recognized as the first Young Citizen Award winner. He was selected because he demonstrated the PTS critical and core values throughout his schooling at Kyle.

Myers Elementary
On Sunday, November 11th, 40 members of the Myers Elementary Choir honored Veteran's by performing for them at the Chicago Wolves game at Allstate Arena. The students performed a patriotic medley called "Our America" with 40 other choirs from the area. The students who performed were able to enjoy the game and they got a free Chicago Wolves hat. A great time was had by all.

PHS MCJROTC
On 10 November 2018 Portage High School Marine Corps JROTC Instructors Master Sergeant Bowers and Lieutenant Colonel Gualandi presented the Purple Heart Medal to Marine Corporal Harrison Chael for wounds sustained in action during the battle of Saipan on 9 July 1944. Corporal Chael waited 74 years for his Purple Heart Medal that was finally presented on the 243rd birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

PHS AP US History
Students in Miss Nye’s PHS AP US History classes participated in a Constitutional Convention simulation where they became the delegates to the Convention and debated issues such as how to determine representation in Congress, property requirements to vote, and slavery.
