Portage YMCA Kicks Off 2013 “We Build People” Annual Support Campaign

Portage-YMCA-2013-Campaign-5Wednesday started out on a bright note at the Portage YMCA. This was due to the kickoff breakfast for their “We Build People” Annual Support Campaign that took place that morning. The campaign is implemented every year to generate funds that go toward helping families and individuals in need. The donations that do toward the campaign help to financially support those who wish to take part in all the programs and services that the Portage YMCA has to offer.

The event was opened by Campaign Chairman, Adam Burroughs, who then introduced Dave Kasarda, the Executive Director of the Portage YMCA. Kasarda welcomed all in attendance. Following him was Scott Marshall with the Invocation. Marshall is the lead pastor at Real Life Church in Portage, IN.

This effort will help children in need specifically. The monetary donations will make the Portage YMCA programs available to them so that they have a place to go and receive the love and positive sanctuary that they may not be getting at home.

The Portage YMCA is greatly involved in the community. Each year the YMCA gives direct assistance to the community to help enrich the lives of its citizens. What exactly does this mean? Let’s talk numbers, shall we? In a given year, the YMCA provides $42,720 worth of free memberships to the fire and police departments, $10,000 in barter services, $25,000 in donations and giveaways, $7,500 goes toward military respite and reserve training, and $85,220 in memberships. Add this all up, and you have a lot of generosity.

After speeches were done, the first of many donations were given to the campaign. Janice Ryba, CEO of St. Mary Medical Center presented a check to the YMCA for $4,000, and Marshall (mentioned earlier) presented a check from the Real Life Church for $5,000. The generosity and kindness from these two organizations is humbling, and hopefully it will spark a fire in others to do the same.Portage-YMCA-2013-Campaign-4

Another way to make donations is by attending the Second Annual Good-Life Awards. On July 10, 2013 the Ideas in Motion Media team will present awards to six individuals that we believe have impacted LIFE in a very positive way.

The event will be held at Industrial Revolution Eatery and Grille, and all net proceeds from the event will be donated to the Portage YMCA and the United Way of La Porte County. For more information on how get tickets, call us at 219-707-5023 or email Liz Powers. To become a sponsor contact Theresa Potesta. So come and have a good time and help support two good organizations.
