Porter County 911 Dispatcher Makayla Pritchett Presented Stork Award

It’s hard to imagine the concern and apprehension of an expectant mother when childbirth begins before getting to the hospital or a paramedic arrives. That’s exactly what happened with an expectant family in September who frantically called 911.

Normally, you might think that a 911 Dispatcher just directs police, fire or ambulances to an emergency situation. Not so.

When Dispatcher Makalya Pritchett took the call from this distressed family, she was trained and ready to respond. Makayla calmly and carefully walked the family through the entire birthing process over the phone, helping bring a new and healthy baby girl into this world.

Makayla is not just a Dispatcher, she is a certified 911 Trainer who helps educate new dispatchers so that they are ready to respond to the needs of our citizens.

At the November 2nd Board of Commissioners meeting, Makalya was presented with the 911 Stork Award for her calm demeanor and professionalism in assisting a mother and father in successfully delivering their new baby girl at home.

Congratulations to Makayla and to the new mom and dad.
