Porter County Highway Plans Environmentally Responsible Pavement Project

In coming days, the Porter County Highway Department is making plans to seal area roads by applying BIORESTOR, a soybean bio-based asphalt pavement rejuvenator seal that is both friendly to the environment and cost-effective. This preventative maintenance process helps make the most efficient use of taxpayer dollars by preserving the life of the asphalt. With this rejuvenation application process, the pavement life of a road can be extended by as much as 3 to 5 years.

During the application process (weather permitting), the road is closed for approximately 1 to 2 hours while the sealant is applied. We advise residents to avoid pulling into their concrete drives after driving on the freshly sprayed roads so as not to mar the surface. Surface marring will come off in time but may be unappealing. Please park on the street for a few hours or check tires for residue before pulling into concrete drives. BIORESTOR is made using non-toxic agricultural oils, the same ones as consumed in certain foods. The oils do have a distinct citrus or pine odor which come from orange, grapefruit and lemon oils. These oils are absolutely safe to breathe, however if you find the odor too strong, we encourage residents to keep windows closed the day of the application. In addition, soybean oil is a major component in the sealant. With Indiana ranking 4th in soybean production, soybean oil is a major by-product of this crop. BIORESTOR is a USDA Bio-Preferred participant.

BIORESTOR is environmentally friendly and cost saving attributes to taxpayers make it an attractive choice to preserve the life of our local roads. This application process makes the road last substantially longer while saving petroleum, money and the environment.
