The Christian season of Lent, 40 days of preparation for Easter, begins with Ash Wednesday, a time of reflection and repentance. To mark this holy day, a service of worship will be held at First United Methodist Church in Portage on Ash Wednesday, March 9, at 7:00 p.m. There will be a light supper served from 5:45-7:00 p.m. with the service immediately following. The service will feature music from soloists, the praise team and the adult choir. Pastor Dennis Ticen will begin a sermon series that evening on the "Seven Deadly Sins" and the evening will conclude with the imposition of ashes. All are welcome.
