Public Invited to Blow Away Breast Cancer Event at Northwest Health – Porter on October 12 During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Northwest Health – Porter will host a “Blow Away Breast Cancer” rally to commemorate breast cancer awareness month in the community and to celebrate and honor those who have been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. The event will take place at Noon on Thursday, Oct. 12 in the main lobby of Northwest Health – Porter, located at 85 East U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso.

The Blow Away Breast Cancer rally will feature comments from hospital officials, a breast cancer survivor and others, a flag-raising ceremony, and “planting” of decorative pinwheels that symbolize the wind Blowing Away Breast Cancer.

“During breast cancer awareness month in October, we renew our focus on the fight against breast cancer. Our Blow Away Breast Cancer event is one opportunity for us to remind women of the importance of an annual screening mammogram and a time to honor our patients and loved ones affected by breast cancer,” said James Leonard, DO, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Northwest Health – Porter.

The Blow Away Breast Cancer event was created in hope that the breast cancer flag that waves throughout the month, and the pinwheels that blow in the wind, will create awareness about the importance of annual screening mammograms to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it is most treatable.
