The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana would like to announce that its 2013 Scholarship Applications are now available. There are two scholarships that the Club offers, a Book Scholarship and a Purdue Scholar Award.
The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana’s Book Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors that plan on attending any of the Purdue Campuses in the Fall of 2013. The scholarship is worth $600 for a year and the following is some of the criteria for the scholarship:
- The graduating high school senior must be enrolled in a Northwest Indiana High School.
- The graduating high school senior must be attending any of the Purdue University Campus in the Fall of 2013.
- The graduating high school senior must excel in both academics and in extra-curricular activities.
Applications for the Book Scholarship are due by April 1, 2013.
The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana’s Purdue Scholar Award is available to current Purdue Students who have completed their first year at any of the Purdue Campuses. The scholarship is worth $1200 for the year and here is some of the criteria for the scholarship:
- Must be enrolled at or have completed at least 24 credit hours at Purdue
- Must have a permanent residence in a county within the Club area. (Counties include: Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton)
“This is a great year to be a Boilermaker”, said Jon Schmaltz, Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee and Indiana North Director with the Purdue Alumni Association. “We are excited about our new Purdue President and are excited about helping more students from Northwest Indiana choose Purdue by awarding them a scholarship.”
Following the Purdue standards of excellence, the Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana has awarded over 20 students, who were either #1 in their class or had scored over an 1800 on their SATs. Jon Schmaltz continued to state,” The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana has helped over 60 students in over 20 different academic areas, that have needed financial assistance,” Schmaltz continued by saying “ It is our goal to give as many scholarships as possible to deserving individuals to help them have a great start on their Purdue education.”
Applications for the Purdue Scholar Award are due by March 1, 2013.

The Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana also has 2 upcoming events as well, on Sunday, January 27th, come and join your fellow Boilermakers as the Women’s Basketball, led by Coach Sharon Versyp take on the Spartans of Michigan State. The game starts at 3pm and will be held at Wings, etc. located at 501 Silhavy Road in Valparaiso, Indiana. The cost is $5 per person for this event; this is for food and pop, tea or coffee.
Then on Saturday, February 16th, the Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana will be hosting its Annual Food Drive for local Food Banks in the area. They will be collecting non-perishable food items, paper products, laundry detergent and personal items for both men and women. According to Laura Lunkes, Secretary for the Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana, “The Food Banks in our area are in desperate need of all of these items and we are glad to help with our part in restocking their shelves to help the communities that we live and serve in.” Come to Fahrenheit 212 located at 10805 Broadway in Crown Point starting at 12:45 pm to drop off your donation and while you’re there stay with us to watch our Boilermakers take on the Hoosiers in a basketball rivalry that is as old as time! The cost is $5 per person for food and your choice of pop, tea or coffee.
