The Purdue University Calumet women’s soccer team dropped an 8-0 conference contest at Cardinal Stritch University Tuesday afternoon.

The Peregrines (1-11-1, 0-7 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell behind 4-0 at the half to the Wolves (10-4, 5-3), whose offense sparked early to a big offensive effort.

Anna Stadler struck first in the 6th minute and finished the game with two goals, the second on a penalty kick in the 54th to give Stritch a 5-0 lead. Zoe Gibney also finished with two goals, scoring in the 66th and 81st minutes.

Stritch outshot the Peregrines by a 24-8 margin and held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Freshman Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) finished the game with eight saves in goal for Purdue Calumet and Shelby Ross (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North), Shayna Coy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers)) and Kami Graber (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) each recorded two shots to lead the Peregrines’ offense.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Saturday, when the Peregrines host Roosevelt for a CCAC contest starting at noon at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field.

The Purdue University Calumet volleyball team defeated Indiana Northwest, 3-0, Tuesday night at the Fitness and Recreation Center.

The Peregrines (7-17) beat the rival RedHawks (3-19) in straight sets, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19, for their ninth-straight win against IUN.

“I was really proud of everyone’s perseverance tonight,” Head Coach Julie Wiejak said.

“Its been a long standing theme our last 10 matches to keep fighting, trying hard and persevering, all the things you would want from a team. One of the qualities I am most proud of is that we persevere though everything.”

The Peregrines took control in the first set, hitting a .344 attack percentage as a team, to take a 25-11 Set 1 win.

Purdue Calumet took that momentum in to the second set, to take a 15-9 lead midway through Set 2, after a pair of kills from Carissa Jones (Hammond, Ind./ Bishop Noll) and Akeelah Muhammad (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township).

The Peregrines wouldn’t let the lead slip away, taking the second set 25-17.

Midway through the final set, the Redhawks got within two points of the Peregrines, 14-12, before the Black and Gold gained back and control and won the third set 25-19.

Purdue Calumet was lead by Akeelah Muhammad, who recorded 12 kills and a .500 attack percentage with three aces while Carley Bartolini (Portage, Ind./Chesterton) registered a match-high 35 assists in the win.

Kenyatta Scales (Elgin, Ill./Elgin) recorded double-digit digs with 12 as did Bartolini (10), Jenna Pasko (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) (10), and Jones (team-high 14).

At the net, Kayla Elsea (Palmyra, Ind./Crawford County), Muhammad and Bartolini finished with three block assists to give the Peregrines a match-best seven total blocks compared to four for IUN.

Jade Mulvaney led the RedHawks with four kills and 15 digs, Kat Stidham had nine assists and Danielle Zandstra had two solo blocks in the setback.

The Peregrines return to action Thursday, Oct. 15 as they travel to Clinton, Iowa to face Ashford University in a non-conference match set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
