Redwood Landscape’s Perthshire project creates a healthy environment for outdoor living

Encouraging communities throughout Northwest Indiana to explore outdoor living has been a point of emphasis for Redwood Landscape. It serves as the main purpose of what the company calls its Perthshire project.

Todd Zandstra, president of Redwood Landscape, discusses the focus that the business had in place for this project.

“This is something that we wanted to do for the community—create a common area,” Zandstra said. “We transformed a large, open area to key in on outdoor living. We have fire pits for people to sit by, a little kitchenette area, and a grill that family and friends can appreciate and relax with together.”

Redwood Landscape uses the Perthshire project as a means of not only benefiting the community through outdoor living but also as a focal point for spending quality time with others.

“Everyone today is so focused on burying their heads into their phones or television,” Zandstra said. “Not enough people try to promote going outside and enjoying nature’s beauty. It’s a very healthy thing to do. We’re hopeful that projects like this will encourage people to do that more often.”

The Perthshire project, which was completed last fall, has played a major role in attracting new faces to Redwood Landscape since arriving. The focus for Redwood Landscape has been to target people who enjoy outdoor living.

After two months of working diligently, this project finally debuted. Zandstra notes that this was an extensive team effort.

“We had to bring the carpenter in to run the pergola,” Zandstra said. “Then we had gas and electricity to run. Once we had everything in place, we had to work on putting everything together. I’m glad we had a great team in place working on this project to make it turn out awesome.”

According to Zandstra, having a team in place can often be one of the most difficult experiences in a project of this caliber.

“We need to have the marketing to propose for the people with designs and plans for them,” Zandstra said. “Sometimes, it can be hard for people to meet their deadlines on a project that requires a lot of materials, but everything came together well.”

Despite being a project that Redwood Landscape has promoted for a while now, the business still tries its best to bring awareness to it throughout the community.

“A lot of people that come see the project in person give us positive feedback on it,” Zandstra said. “Not too many people know that we were the ones to do it though. It’s nice to see that we’re starting to get the word out about it and we’re always here to help people out.”

With the shift to winter upon us, the emphasis on outdoor living will likely slow down until the warmer seasons return. However, Zandstra believes that the Perthshire project is a prime example of what Redwood Landscape is all about. The business is excited to see the impact that it’ll leave on families in the community for the foreseeable future.
