Rehlander, Laird to Lead Engineering for Valparaiso

Rehlander, Laird to Lead Engineering for Valparaiso

The City of Valparaiso has named Max Rehlander as Interim Engineering Director and Bill Laird as  Interim Chief Deputy Engineer, announced Mayor Matt Murphy. “Both Max and Bill have demonstrated  their excellence and engineering expertise on behalf of the City of Valparaiso, leading key projects over  the past several years. We’re so pleased to name them to our leadership team,” he said. 

Rehlander joined the City of Valparaiso in 2021 as Deputy City Engineer. He was formerly with  Abonmarche Consulting and American Structurepoint Inc. where he worked on projects ranging from  storm sewer design to roads, trails and utilities. He is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in  civil engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Indiana. He lives in Valparaiso  and is engaged to be married in 2024.  

Laird joined the City of Valparaiso in 2019 as Deputy Engineer. He was formerly the Director of Planning  for the Town of Merrillville and also served in engineering for the City of Crown Point. He has also taught  land surveying at Purdue Calumet. He is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in mechanical  engineering technology and a member of the Stormwater Advisory Board for Porter County. He lives in  Valparaiso.
