Ronald McDonald Surprises Merrillville Intermediate School

Ronald-McDonald-Surprises-Merrillville-Intermediate-School-2017_01 The Merrillville Intermediate School S.T.A.N.D. (Socially Together and Naturally Diverse) club completed their 3rd annual pop tab collection to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Ronald-McDonald-Surprises-Merrillville-Intermediate-School-2017_02 The S.T.A.N.D. club is a group of students who believe in the appreciation of diversity, promoting community service for students, and actively involving the community in students’ lives at school and beyond.

Ronald-McDonald-Surprises-Merrillville-Intermediate-School-2017_03 S.T.A.N.D. members advertised the drive and collected pop tabs during their lunches. In total 62,586 pop tabs were collected! This year’s collection was a big surprise as 23,786 were collected the year before. It is always exciting to see our students exceed their goals. Their passion for community service at such a young age is admirable and inspiring.

The students were able to see a direct connection between community service and how it directly impacts their community when they had the opportunity to meet Ronald McDonald at an after school event. Students from Student Council and P.E.A.R.L.S. (Pretty Elegant Articulate Respected Young Ladies Society) were invited to the event as they also are community service driven clubs. Ronald thanked the students for their pop tabs as well as encouraging the students to continue giving back to their community. The students had a lot of fun meeting Ronald and clowning around with him. Congratulations to all of our students on yet another successful pop tab collection.
