Sales Consultant Mohamad Youssef finds family, connection, and growth at Thomas KIA of Highland

When shopping for the perfect vehicle, people want to know they’re in good, caring hands. They want to know whether they have one question or a hundred that there will be someone at the dealership who wants to help them make the best decision possible. Thomas KIA of Highland is known for having an entire team packed with these types of caring individuals, and Sales Consultant Mohamad Youssef is undoubtedly one of them.

Youssef was born and raised in Egypt. Growing up, he dreamed of producing and directing movies, so when he was 18, he headed off to the United States to start his education. Youssef went to Illinois Media School and earned his bachelor’s degree in radio and television broadcasting and production. He was ready to pursue his passion.

Life has a funny way of leading people in different directions, though. While working to make his dreams come true, Youssef started a family. He had four daughters and needed to find a way to support them. Eventually, Youssef heard about an opportunity to work at Thomas KIA, and he jumped at it. After a short interview and some hoping, he was hired on as a sales consultant.

“It was fate,” said Youssef.

Youssef was immediately enraptured with the dealership’s welcoming culture. For him, work shouldn’t just be a place a person goes to in order to pay the bills; work should be a home away from home. At Thomas KIA, Youssef had found his second home.

“Coming from Egypt, family is the most important thing. When you work in a place like this and put in so many hours, it’s nice to have that same sense of family that you have at home. There is such a great family culture here. It immediately makes you feel that this could be a career that helps you become successful,” said Youssef.

Youssef has now been with Thomas KIA for 10 years and couldn’t be happier with where he’s ended up. He loves the way his work challenges him every day and takes great pride in helping customers find the perfect car. The lasting connections he’s made throughout the years continue to brighten his day.

“I take great pride in what I do. If I don't provide you with enough information, I have not fulfilled my job. This job isn’t about getting a customer to select a vehicle and getting them out the door. It's a process. We want to build a relationship with a customer so that when we see them in a year or two they still remember our names and they’re excited to tell us how satisfied they are with the purchase we helped them with,” said Youssef.

Youssef also loves how much his position has allowed him to grow as a person and change his perspective on success. It’s easy to measure success simply by how many goals a person has achieved or how many awards they’ve won, but Youssef has found that success is an ongoing process.

“Earl Nightingale once explained that success is working every day to achieve a goal. Whether it's a short-term goal or long-term doesn’t matter. Going after that goal every single day is the definition of success. If I don't sell a car in one day, that doesn't mean that I failed. If I fulfilled my duties and completed the tasks that will help me do well in my position, then I’ve succeeded. The universe will work itself out – the rest will come later,” said Youssef.

If Youssef could give anyone advice, he would encourage them to look at life more positively. A person can only be as happy as their mindset.

“The attitude of gratefulness is my approach to almost everything in life. When you look at every little thing as a blessing, you have a good morning, you have a good day, and you bring the best out of yourself,” said Youssef.

When thinking about all the people in his life who have mentored him and been there for him, Youssef can’t even begin to express how grateful he is. He’s thankful to each and every one of his coworkers for being by his side for the last 10 years.

“I'd have to name every single person on the floor. When you feel success over the years, it feels like you couldn't have done it without the support of all the people who have been there. They all pushed and supported me in different ways. Every single person’s presence and energy goes a long way on a daily basis. We are truly a family,” said Youssef.

Youssef is also grateful for his parents and everything they did to make him the person he is.

“I can never be grateful enough for my parents. I couldn’t have done anything in my life without their upbringing and their support over the years. Usually, we go through our lives and meet so many people who become big parts of our lives that we tend to take our parents for granted, but I know I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” said Youssef.

Lastly, Youssef is endlessly grateful for his daughters who mean everything to him.

“My girls are my treasures,” said Youssef.

Thomas KIA of Highland couldn’t ask for a more caring employee. When Youssef isn’t busy helping others find their dream cars, he continues to work toward his dream of directing a movie. He loves to play around with his camera and editing software and put his skills to the test. He’s even done videos for a few weddings. He also loves to travel as much as he possibly can.
