Scott McClure Brings Professionalism to New Position as Porter County Attorney

Scott McClure has busy serving Porter County. Along with his current position as a practicing attorney for law firm Rhame and Elwood, he recently accepted the position of Porter County Attorney, adding a new set of responsibilities to his already long and distinguished career.

"Being a Porter County Attorney represents the commissions of the county," says McClure. "I advise them on the in-depth issues that are happening in the county. I basically help shepherd their way through the problem-solving phase of it."

McClure accepted this position after previous Porter County Attorney Elizabeth Knight retired. After sending in his application, a majority vote elected him to this position.

"It was through the end of 2015 that I became interested in this position," says McClure. "I've been involved with the council for many years and wanted to become more involved with local government as it offered a fresh new change."

Along with his role as Porter County Attorney, McClure is also the Attorney for the Portage Planning Commission, Portage Board of Zoning Appeals, Portage Police Merit Board as well as the Porter County Board of Zoning Appeals. Outside the areas of the law, he was the previous Portage YMCA Board President.

"This role will allow me to help the county in any manner I can in order to help make the best decisions in running the county," says McClure. "I am a full-time attorney for Rhame & Elwood, but this is also a full-time job that I perform."

McClure always knew he wanted to take the path of an attorney even from a young age, crediting his interest in law intensifying during his time in high school.

"It always intrigued me how law intertwines itself through every facet of society," says McClure. "I always admired how you are able to make changes and how much you have the ability to change within the law to adapt and work for specific needs."

McClure earned his BA from Indiana University and then attended DePaul School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 2001.

McClure then found his way to Rhame & Elwood the same year, becoming an Associate before practicing in Criminal Law, Wills Trusts & Estates, Civil Litigation, Municipal Law and Family Law.

For McClure his list of duties and responsibilities is extensive, but the opportunity to serve the community through a wide range of services is extensive and through these responsibilities, McClure hopes to provide the same level commitment and professionalism that has been a key component of his career.

"I enjoy being able to make positive influences in local government," says McClure. "The law is hard work, but in the end it is ultimately fulfilling. I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve the community."
