Soccer at the Hobart High School is Looking Good This Year!

hobart-brickies-mascotSoccer at the Hobart High School is looking good this year! The men’s squad is about ready to embark on their next season under the leadership of new coaching. The Brickies will be led by Head Coach John Hutchins this year. Coach Hutchins is stepping up from the assistant position held in previous years. New to the Brickie soccer coaching staff is Don Decker. He will be filling the Assistant Coaching position having had previous coaching experience in Lowell and with the Millennium premier soccer organization. Coach Hutchins has a son Michael who will be lending a hand to the coaching staff as well.

Coach Hutchins is excited about this year saying that, “I have never had a team with as great as chemistry as this team does”.

He says they are a great group of kids that have been working hard all year. Official practices didn’t start until August 5, 2013 but a good group of about 20 were showing up pretty regularly during the off season. Now that official practices have started the roster size has increased and he expects to have around 32 names on his list this season. This year they will be able to have a truer Varsity/Jr Varsity squad this year, lending the players the capacity to play hard ball without having to worry about manning both teams.

“There has been nothing but positive energy, the kids believe in me,” Hutchins said. “I hope that attitude holds true for the entire season.”

Andrean is their first match this year. Always a tough team, they will at least get to play them on home turf at the Brickyard. The two a days are done and they are gearing up for this first game.

Coach Hutchins is hoping to get some good leadership and soccer playing from some of his veteran players. Matt Plesac, KJ Haluska, Martin Howland, Todd Burns, Miguel Marcano, Vincent Olmos and Will Prieto will be some of the players he is looking at becoming the backbone of the team this year. They have been putting in the time and effort and hope their hard work pays off in their game performance.

Talking to the players you can hear the excitement in their voices. Haluska, Plesac, Olmos and Howland all agreed that this is going to be a great season and that the team has great chemistry and they are in a positive frame of mind going into the year.

“Everyone is going all out and giving their 100%,” Junior Matt Plesac voiced during the discussion.

They are looking forward to a season of winning some games. They attribute much of this to the new coaching crew. The teams are playing well together and have developed better communication skills, and are moving the ball better. The attitude of the team as a whole is much improved and they are looking forward to seeing what they can do against Andrean in their opening match.

Come out and watch their season opener, and cheer them on to a big win, Saturday August 24, 2013! Games will start at 12pm.
