Art with "the animal in any shape or form" as subject is the theme of Southern Shore Art Association’s multimedia exhibition opening on June 6, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday festivities in the Uptown Arts District. The SSAA Gallery offers free hospitality for the opening reception with an opportunity to meet the artists.
Members of the animal kingdom have been depicted in works of art for centuries and remain a popular subject. From the creatures of the jungles to those of the air and the oceans and those who share our lives domestically, animals in their variety of color, texture, size, personality and purpose are our planet partners.
Our June exhibition affords regional member and guest artists the opportunity to be animal-inspired through painting, sculpture, photography and other media. This April, one of our participating artists: Carol Estes, photographer, was named a "2014 Hoosier Women Artist" Her award winning photo "The Jury is Out!" is now hanging in the Lt. Governor's reception area for one year and will be on exhibit at SSAA.
The Southern Shore Art Association is a regional non-profit organization with a showcase gallery expressly for both member and guest artists in a variety of media to exhibit and sell their original work on a monthly basis. SSAA also offers art classes, educational programming and networking for artists. The Gallery is located at 724 Franklin in Michigan City, IN. "FUR, FEATHERS, SKIN & SCALES" will run through Sunday June 29 and Gallery open hours are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. (CST).
Please note: July First Friday Opening will not be on July 4th, the Gallery will be closed.
The official Opening of our next Exhibit "SUMMER OF ART" will be Friday the 11th of June.
