St. Mary’s K-8 Students Participate in National “Hour of Code”

St-Mary-School-Hour-of-Code-2017Once again this year, students at St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point joined millions of other students around the world for the “Hour of Code.” The event is held in conjunction with National Computer Science Education Week. The event provides students with a basic introduction to computer science programming through the completion of a coding activity and helps students develop problem-solving and logic skills through a creative, interactive, and engaging activity.

“Our school is proud to be increasing computer science opportunities for all of our students.” said computer Teacher Heather Clarkson. “Participation in the Hour of Code event not only gives students time to increase their computational literacy, but it also provides them with a window of opportunity to explore the STEM jobs of the future.”

“Hour of Code” is a global movement that spans more than 180 countries. It is projected that 109,000 events of this type took place around the world.
