Eighteen of St. Mary Catholic Community School’s Chess Club members traveled to Indianapolis this past weekend for the SCI individual state chess tournament. The weekend included fun and fellowship for the kids and parents as well as the seriousness and intensity of competitive chess.
Three players achieved an amazing score of 4.0. Elijah Wagner, James Raggs, and Joseph Mullally all won four rounds landing them in 18th, 11th, and 21st place respectively in their divisions. The other state finalists included: Emily Jen, James Mullally, John Mouser, Rachel Mumaugh, James Zembillas, Jaxon Froglia, Nathan Jamrosz, Danny Shea, Lucas Raloff, James Wong, Gabriel Rosado, Stefan Novakovich, Joey Shea, Ayumi Artis, and Grace Jamrosz. All eighteen finalists played brilliantly and represented St. Mary’s School and Northwest Indiana very well.
St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point was opened in 1872. The school offers grade levels Junior Pre-Kindergarten (for three-year-olds) through eight and is the largest school in the Diocese of Gary.
