Stephen Kavois: Partner and Wealth Advisor at Oak Partners, Coach

While getting his degree in management at Purdue University, Oak Partners Partner and Wealth Advisor Stephen Kavois, CFP® originally thought he wanted to go the traditional, corporate business management route. When he was approached with an alternative through Oak Partners, he decided to accept the opportunity.

“Oak Partners gave me the opportunity to be more entrepreneurial because we own our businesses here,” Kavois said. “I thought that was a good chance to use my business background but also be my own boss in a way or at least work on a small team and actually own the business that I'm building.”

Since 2005, Kavois has been working with friends every day at Oak Partners. He describes his co-workers as tight-knit with everyone working for the benefit of growth. While they are all entrepreneurial, they understand that everyone has a specialty and personality that works better for certain situations and clients and that everyone’s wins are wins for Oak Partners as a whole.

Celebrating these wins with clients and cultivating positive relationships with them is special to Kavois and the other partners and wealth advisors at Oak Partners.

“I like the relationships we’ve built with our clients. We've traveled with clients; we've set single clients up at client events. Sometimes it might be a little bit harder for single retirees to find a partner, and we've been able to set some up, and we hang out with clients on a regular basis,” Kavois said. “It's rewarding to have these people that came in because they needed somebody to help manage their money start to look at us as friends and even family and getting invited to daughter's weddings.”

Kavois' work at Oak Partners has helped him showcase and build upon his strengths. Kavois works with building portfolios and strategies for clients and is able to handle people’s finances from an analytical perspective rather than an emotional perspective.

The state of the economy that people constantly hear about on the news can cause anxiety and be a major stress point in many people’s lives, but Kavois is able to relieve people’s worries with his financial expertise.

“The fact that we're able to take the emotion out of managing money and doing it from a more pragmatic and analytical way, I think it helps a lot of people succeed in retirement and takes a lot of strain and stress off of themselves,” Kavois said. “They may not as experienced and educated in the areas of finance, and we help tune out the noise.”

Kavois also uses applies his financial experience to his work on the board of directors for Legacy Foundation to help other people.

Currently, Kavois spends much of his free time coaching soccer and basketball for his triplet sons’ teams and has also coached their baseball team when it was in season. Many of his favorite hobbies revolve around outdoor recreational activities such as skiing, playing water sports, and golfing.
