Team Senator Wins Two State Championships at 2016 Academic Competition

Team_Senator_Wins_Two_State_ChampionshipWashington Township Middle School Academic Teams had an outstanding performance at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division LaPorte Area Competition winning five subject areas (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Interdisciplinary) in Class 4 with three of the subject areas (Science, Social Studies, Interdisciplinary) defeating all schools in Classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 competing at LaPorte.

After comparing scores throughout the state, Washington Township Middle School was named the 2016 Class 4 Social Studies State Champions, 2016 Class 4 Interdisciplinary State Champions, the 2016 Class 4 Science State Runner-Up, the 2016 Class 4 English 3rd place and Math 5th place finishers.

Team Senator's Social Studies Team made up of Jenn Cahillane, Sunjay Raman and Charlie Schmidgall won with a score of 21 out of 25 questions which was the highest Social Studies score with all class combined in the state.

This was Washington Township's fourth Social Studies State Championship in the last five years. The state champion Interdisciplinary team of Jenn Cahillane, Katey Clark, Quinlan Scott, and JJ Stewart scored a 22 out of 25 questions. Washington Township Middle School's Academic Teams have combined to win 11 State Championships in 12 years. Washington Township has won at least one subject area state championship for the past 9 years.

The Science Team consisting of Jenn Cahillane, Katie Evans, and JJ Stewart won with a score of 19 and was named Science Class 4 State Runner-Up. The English Team consisting of Zoe Brickner, Taylor Schumann, and Quinlan Scott won with a score of 17 and placed 3rd in Class 4 state competition.

The Mathematics Team of Katey Clark, Katie Evans, and JJ Stewart won with a score of 16 and placed 5th overall in the state competition.

Washington Township Middle School placed first overall for the 2nd consecutive year in total questions answered.

This was Washington Township's 8th consecutive year placing in the Class 4 Top Ten Overall. The theme for this year's contest was "Hoosier Heritage", celebrating Indiana's bicentennial.
