The Chesterton High School yearbook was recognized as a Hoosier Star Award Honorable Mention for the 2012-2013 school year at the Indiana High School Press Association’s Annual State Convention at the end of October. The Singing Sands was one of 14 books to be named a Hoosier Star Award winner in the state’s large school division.
In addition to the 2012-2013 yearbook’s success, the 2013-14 yearbook received recognition by placing in five of the seven entered IHSPA Harvey Award competitions. The staff was recognized for having the best ‘academic’ section in the state. The book also received second place for its ‘Student Life’ section, third in Sports Photography’ section, and fourth in its ‘Theme Design’ and ‘Sports’ sections.
The CHS Sandscript newspaper was also recognized for its excellence. The newspaper received a Hoosier Star Honorable Mention award for its production during the 2013-2014 school year. The Sandcript was one of eight books that were recognized as a Hoosier Star Award winner in the state’s large school division.
The Singing Sands yearbook was created under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Katherine Smith, while the Sandscript was created under Editor-in-Chief Lauren Lecy. Lecy was also elected to her third consecutive term as one of the IHSPA’s State Student Advisers.
The yearbook is advised by English teacher John Thanos and the newspaper is advised by English teacher John Hayduk.
