The Lakes of Valparaiso celebrated National Dog Biscuit Day by showering four-legged friends of the community with snacks. “Treat Yo’ Pet Day” featured 100 handmade packages of dog biscuits arranged at the Clubhouse for owners to come and grab.
“Fur babies get a little treat today,” McCarthy said. “About 60 percent of our residents have an animal, so this is a great way to connect with them.”
The Lakes of Valparaiso works to build a community, and they recognize that canine companions are an important part of some residents’ families. Within the community, there are plenty of pet enthusiasts.
“We have a dog park so the residents can come together and create friendships while their dogs play,” McCarthy said. “It’s great to have animals as a part of the community and it’s a lot of fun. We love to get to know them and play with them.”
In the spirit of community, resident Brad Gottschlich contributed a box of dog chews for the Treat Yo’ Pet event. Gottschlich is an owner of J.J. Fuds, Inc., which manufactures pet products using natural, domestic ingredients. While Gottschlich is not currently a dog owner, he appreciates the events hosted by The Lakes of Valparaiso.
“It’s a nice community here,” Gottschlich said. “I just moved back to the Region in November, so I enjoy the events because it allows me to meet people.”
James Richy, Maintenance Technician at The Lakes, said that he grew up in other apartment communities, and he is impressed by the fun events that The Lakes has for pets. According to Richy, there is a “Doggy Plunge” event in the summer where dogs get to jump in the pool when it closes for the season.
“Our residents love the events that we have here,” Richy said. “The dogs do, too!”
