Everything was perfect. The engagement while walking through Coffee Creek in late May. Finding the perfect, local venue for the small ceremony and reception for the early October date. And, saying Yes to the Dress at Catherine’s Bridal Boutique in Valparaiso.
Tiffany Heying wasted no time heading to the local bridal store to pick out her wedding dress. With a simple, elegant style in mind, Heying showed up at Catherine’s with her two friends to search for her perfect dress.
She was met by employee Kristine and was helped into about eight dresses before saying ‘Yes’ to hers.
“She was wonderful!” Heying said. “My overall experience there was great. She (Kristine) helped me pick out dresses based on my budget and what I was looking for and stayed with me the entire time offering suggestions and options with different dresses. I felt like there was a nice selection available and various styles to choose from.”
Heying chose Catherine’s to first look at a local place that would have more unique styles to choose from, she said. Plus, the ability to have a face-to-face experience, and professional help is far better than ordering online.
She came into the store with a basic plan, but admitted that dress shopping is overwhelming no matter how you prepare!
“Kristine really listened to what I was looking for and helped offer ideas to complete the dress style that I chose that day,” she said. “Trying on dresses is very overwhelming and sometimes what you think you want isn't quite what you end up falling in love with.”
Heying found her perfect dress, said ‘Yes to the Dress’ and left the store smiling. She was now one step closer to her wedding day.
Unfortunately, Heying chose a dress by the bridal gown chain Alfred Angelo, which unexpectedly filed for bankruptcy without warning on July 12th. She, along with hundreds of brides-to-be, are sitting in limbo waiting to hear what will happen to their dress. The closure of more than 60 stores and 1,400 retailers, has left brides scrambling to find new dresses, and local businesses scrambling around with them.
“I have had no word on my dress, but Catherine’s has been very nice in keeping me informed to what they know,” Heying said. “I have spoken with Catherine’s a few times since finding out about the bankruptcy and I have been told they are working with the appropriate people on locating what orders will be fulfilled.”
Heying is positive and looking past the situation. Thanks to Catherine’s she was able to pinpoint a perfect style that matches her personality and wedding theme. She and her future husband Clinton Schreck, are excited to exchange vows this October.
Catherine’s Bridal offers a large variety of dresses from designers from all over the country to fit all brides’ styles and budgets. With the move to the new location on 113 Lincolnway in downtown Valpo, they are now able to take on more appointments and customers with the bigger space.
Coming up on August 3rd, store owner Cathy Brown and her staff are celebrating the official opening of the store with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
