No matter the time of year, the Region always brings a wide variety of new, innovative events and activities to help bring communities together. From concerts, to parades, to trick-or-treating, their is something for everyone to enjoy and create and lasting memory with.

The year 2023 was no different, and we were extremely excited to capture all of the joy, excitement, and fun that was available to the community. We at GreatNews.Life pride ourselves in not only capturing the events, but creating a lasting memory that family, friends, and community members can look back on in the future.

City of Hammond celebrates Region pride at 7th annual 219 Day

Taking the time to celebrate community is a beautiful thing. On Saturday, February 18 the City of Hammond held its seventh annual 219 Day to show some Region pride and celebrate everything that makes the Region the tight-knit community that it is. People traveled from all over the place to join in the festivities–for some, it was just the next city over, for others it was quite a trip. Either way, the event was the perfect way for everyone to kick back together and connect through a common passion. 

Lake Central High School breaks the status quo with its performance of High School Musical on stage

There’s nothing better than getting your head in the game and working with your friends to put on a spectacular show. On Tuesday, February 28 the Lake Central High School Theatre Company held its final dress rehearsal of “High School Musical On Stage,” and to say the kids are eager about their upcoming performances would be an understatement. Excitement hung in the air as kids did final costume checks and song run-throughs. 

Crown Point High School Theatre presents Rodgers + Hammerstein's "Cinderella"

Crown Point High School (CPHS) Theatre lifted the curtain on their Spring Musical, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” on Friday evening. An adaptation of the classic fairy tale, the CPHS crew brings to life a musical love story of magic, dance, and a few additions new to those who might be familiar with Disney’s rendition.

“Cinderella” is one of CPHS Theatre’s most ambitious productions to date, according to the cast and crew. It features a dynamic set, with palatial walls and magic carriages – and each cast member has three detailed costumes to swap throughout the show.

The City of Crown Point’s downtown square is a fixture of Northwest Indiana. With a variety of unique cafes, shops, and the historic Lake County Courthouse, turning a visit to the Square into a true day trip is beyond easy. Crossroads kicks off summer and supports local businesses with the annual corn roast

It’s finally that corny time of year again! On Friday, Crossroads, Northwest Indiana’s Chamber, kicked off this year’s annual Corn Roast, a two-day event taking place on June 2nd and June 3rd. As attendees milled around with smiles on their faces and fun festival food in their hands, it was clear that this year’s Corn Roast was one of Crossroads' corniest Corn Roasts yet. 

Mascot Hall of Fame hosts "Cue the Confetti" fundraiser for underprivileged schools

The Mascot Hall of Fame announced their 2023 inductees and honored others in attendance today at their “Cue the Confetti” fundraiser event. The event provided plenty of food, music, and fun games for people to play. 

City of Whiting's 2023 Pierogi Fest gets an exciting start, brings people together

It’s officially the most wonderful time of the year again in Northwest Indiana. On Friday, July 28 the City of Whiting kicked off its 2023 Pierogi Fest with a playful Polka Parade. Each year 300,000 people flock to Whiting to see this wacky fun summer festival for themselves, and this year was certainly no different.

Crown Point celebrates October and community with a two-day Oktoberfest

Live music, vendors, and good times abounded on the first day of Crown Point’s Oktoberfest. The festival also featured a beer garden. Friends and family gathered to welcome in the fall while enjoying eats and drinks from vendors.
